Here’s some history, get the full history lesson from Brad on the podcast

The Amaretto Sour is a classic cocktail that has been enjoyed for decades. It is known for its sweet and sour flavor profile, combining the almond-flavored liqueur amaretto with the tartness of lemon juice. While the exact origins of the Amaretto Sour are not well-documented, its popularity can be traced back to the mid-20th century.

Amaretto itself has a longer history. The liqueur is made from almonds or apricot pits, which are steeped in alcohol and sugar. Its name is derived from the Italian word "amaro," meaning bitter, reflecting the slightly bitter taste of almonds or apricot kernels.

The Amaretto Sour likely gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s when cocktails were experiencing a revival, and people were exploring new and creative ways to enjoy alcoholic beverages. The cocktail's appeal lies in its balance of sweetness and tartness, making it a refreshing and accessible choice for a wide range of drinkers.

This week’s tip: How to make homemade Amaretto

Really easy, essentially you make a rich syrup first

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup white sugar + ½ cup brown

  • Bring to a boil until sugar dissolves.

  • Let cool

  • Add to a jar the syrup, 2.5 cups of vodka

  • 2 tbsp almond extract

  • 1-2 tsp vanilla extract

  • That’s it, store it in a cool dark place!
