20th Century Backstory

The 20th-century cocktail is a classic drink that was created in the mid-20th century, although its exact origins are a bit murky. It's believed to have been invented in the 1930s or 1940s, but there's no definitive evidence to pinpoint its exact creator or the circumstances of its invention. However, its popularity has endured, and it remains a beloved cocktail among mixologists and cocktail enthusiasts.

The cocktail's name is a nod to the era in which it was likely created, as well as its ingredients. The drink features equal parts of gin, Lillet Blanc (a French aromatized wine), and fresh lemon juice, along with a dash of crème de cacao, a chocolate-flavored liqueur. The resulting concoction is both refreshing and complex, with the citrus notes from the lemon juice balancing the sweetness of the crème de cacao and the herbal flavors of the gin and Lillet Blanc.
