Vesper Martini

The Vesper Martini is a cocktail made famous by Ian Fleming's fictional British secret agent, James Bond, in the 1953 novel "Casino Royale." Here's a detailed look at the history of the Vesper Martini and some fun facts about it:

History of the Vesper Martini

  1. Creation in "Casino Royale" (1953):

    • The Vesper Martini was first introduced in Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale," where James Bond orders a very specific martini:

      • "Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?"

  2. Naming the Cocktail:

    • Bond names the drink after Vesper Lynd, the novel's lead female character. He later christens it the "Vesper" in her honor, saying, "Because of the bitter aftertaste."
