Episode 84 The Ward 8

Ep. 84: Falladays, politics, and whiskey  – Ward 8 Cocktail

Welcome to Season 6 episode 84 of The Art of Drinking with Join Jules and Your Favorite Uncle

Tis the season, nothing but political ads on TV, social media, and radio – btw we strictly ban any political ads from appearing during this show. This is a safe place :-) So this falladay season, why not turn all of that off and listen to The Art Of Drinking instead? In today’s episode we learn about the Ward 8 cocktail, which does have political roots, but we don’t get into any politics – except for Uncle Brad, he has an announcement to make. Stick around for the history and an awesome tip inspired by @missykrissy719

A lil backstory of today’s cocktail

The Ward 8 cocktail is a classic American drink with a storied history dating back to the late 19th century. It originated in Boston, Massachusetts, and is closely associated with political history and the city's social scene.

The most widely accepted story attributes the creation of the Ward 8 cocktail to 1898, at a bar called Locke-Ober. This establishment was a popular gathering spot for politicians and socialites. The drink was supposedly created to celebrate the election victory of Martin Lomasney, a powerful and influential figure in Boston's Democratic Party machine, known for his control over Ward 8, one of the city’s voting districts. Lomasney’s political influence was so strong that his win was a foregone conclusion, and the cocktail was said to be a toast to his success.

TIP: @missykrissy719. I’m getting into fat-washing liquor! Can you talk more about the process?
